Professional Background

Can you describe your role and its primary responsibilities?

As a Skills Development & Health and Safety Practitioner and Consultant, my primary role is to ensure organizational compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 0f 1993) regulations while fostering workforce competency through targeted skills development programs based on the requirements of the Skills Development Act (Act 97 of 1998). 

My Key Responsibilities:

-Health & Safety (H&S): Conducting risk assessments, audits, and workplace inspections. Developing policies, training programs, and ensuring compliance with global standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001). Investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.

-Skills Development: Designing training programs to enhance safety, soft skills, and technical competencies. Aligning initiatives with industry regulations (e.g., SETA, NQF). Managing Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and advising leadership on talent development.

-Consulting: Providing expert guidance on H&S and skills development, helping businesses achieve accreditation, and delivering tailored solutions to enhance safety and workforce capability. My work ensures a safe, compliant, and skilled workforce—reducing risks while driving operational excellence.

NEBOSH Qualification Experience

How did you decide to complete your NEBOSH qualification with OHS Compliance Group?

When I decided to complete my NEBOSH qualification, I was not yet aware of OHS Compliance Group’s existence. I had looked at a few NEBOSH Learning Partners in South Africa and chose to go with SHEILDs.

What did you enjoy most about your NEBOSH qualification experience with us?

What I enjoyed the most about my NEBOSH qualification experience was the support I received from the Tutors, coupled with the uninterrupted availability of to the learning material whenever I needed to access it. I also enjoyed the fact that the content of the learning material is user-friendly.

What motivated you to pursue the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health?

My NEBOSH qualification is International Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health for Management Professionals (Dep). What motivated me to embark on this NEBOSH qualification is the fact that NEBOSH has the best reputation and offers the best worldwide recognised OHS qualifications.

How has taking the NEBOSH qualification helped you in your role or career?

Earning my NEBOSH qualification has been a game-changer in my career, enhancing my knowledge, confidence, and practical skills in health and safety. It equipped me with key competencies like risk assessment, legal compliance, and incident investigation, allowing me to improve workplace safety, gain credibility, and advance into senior roles. With NEBOSH, I now lead audits, develop safety procedures, and influence company-wide policies. Beyond my current role, it has positioned me for future leadership in HSE, providing a strong foundation for ongoing career growth.

-To complete my NEBOSH qualification, I used MS Teams and e-learning methods.

-How would you rate your overall experience with our training delivery method?

How would you rate your overall experience with our training delivery method?

I’d rate the training delivery a 9/10. The mix of virtual tutor-led sessions and hands-on exercises was ideal for retaining information. The tutor’s ability to relate concepts to industry examples made the content highly relevant. My only suggestion would be to include more breakout discussions for peer learning.

Can you describe your overall experience with OHS Compliance Group?

My experience has been highly collaborative. The company has a strong reputation. In my current role, I’ve collaborated with Transnet teams to implement compliance training, and I’d be eager to contribute to more initiatives.
