OHS Compliance Group has been accredited to offer the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (IGC) in French. This milestone strengthens our ambition to contribute to safer workplaces globally, while extending our engagement with French-speaking professionals and employers across Africa.

As an African organisation, we see this development as more than an addition to our course languages. It is an opportunity to bring internationally recognised learning closer to the people and organisations whose work supports the continent's growth.

An African Perspective on Workplace Safety

We are Africans, and our understanding of Africa informs the contribution we want to make. That understanding begins with recognising the continent's diversity: its languages, industries, legal frameworks and working environments are not interchangeable.

Effective health and safety education must respect those differences. It should help professionals apply knowledge to the risks they encounter, communicate clearly with their teams and make informed decisions within their own workplace and regulatory context.

Our African roots and global ambitions are therefore complementary. We want to connect international standards with locally relevant learning, supporting the people responsible for turning safety principles into everyday practice.

    Why French-Language Learning Matters

Language influences how learners engage with technical concepts, discuss workplace challenges and explain the reasoning behind safety decisions. Studying in French can help French-speaking professionals participate more confidently in that process.

The NEBOSH IGC develops knowledge and practical skills in health and safety management, hazard identification and risk assessment. Offering it in French broadens access to that learning; the objective remains the same: stronger capability to recognise risks, recommend suitable controls and contribute to preventing harm.

International qualifications should always be applied alongside local legislation and the specific conditions of each workplace. They support professional capability, rather than replace an employer's legal duties or guarantee compliance.

Strengthening Our Engagement with Francophone West Africa

This accreditation supports our plans to expand our engagement with Francophone Africa, particularly West African countries such as Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo and Guinea.

Mining provides one important context for this ambition. Safety professionals working around mobile equipment, processing operations and other mining activities need to assess risks carefully and communicate controls effectively. Access to professional education in a familiar working language can support that responsibility.

The relevance extends beyond mining to construction, manufacturing, energy, transport and logistics. Across these sectors, the priority is not simply to gain a qualification, but to develop the judgement and practical capability that help organisations protect their people.

    Value for Professionals and Employers

For professionals, the NEBOSH IGC can provide a foundation for further development and roles involving greater health and safety responsibility. French-language delivery offers a route to engage with that learning in a language used across many Francophone workplaces.

For employers, developing staff capability can support more informed risk assessments, clearer safety communication and a stronger approach to prevention. The value lies in how learning is applied: identifying hazards, reviewing controls and contributing to continuous improvement.

As a NEBOSH Gold Learning Partner, OHS Compliance Group's role is to support that learning journey. NEBOSH provides the qualification framework; our commitment is to help learners develop the understanding needed to use it meaningfully.

    African Roots, a Global Contribution

Our ambition to become a global player in health and safety education and workplace-safety advocacy is grounded in the contribution we can make, not geographical reach alone. Expanding access, respecting linguistic diversity and supporting practical workplace capability are central to that ambition.

French is an important step. Looking ahead, Arabic is the next planned chapter, with Egypt identified as our landing base for that expansion. This is a statement of direction, not an announcement of Arabic accreditation or course availability; further details will be shared as that work progresses.

From Francophone West Africa to North Africa and beyond, our purpose remains consistent: to help more people access relevant health and safety education and contribute to safer workplaces.
